Seven medical research teams announced super-aged precision regenerative medicine research results on July 27 during the BIO Asia–Taiwan 2024 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, according to the National Science and Technology Council.

The teams include Taipei City-based Academia Sinica, National Taiwan University and Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, New Taipei City-based Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, Taoyuan City-based Chang Gung University,Taichung City-based China Medical University and Tainan City-based National Cheng Kung University.

Taiwan is rapidly becoming a super-aged society, creating medical needs for senior citizens and disabled patients. In response the NSTC has promoted a super-aged precision regenerative medicine project since 2022, in which the teams above participated.

These scope of research spans both emerging regenerative medical techniques such as allogenic stem cells or allogenic immune cells therapy, induced pluripotent stem cells, gene-modified cells and exosome as well as a protocol platform for safety and efficacy. The NSTC said that regenerative medicine with cell therapy at its core has significant potential to address aging, disability and the concomitant medical needs. (POC-E)
