The government of Taiwan has rolled out measures to Stand with Ukraine in response to the military invasion by Russia in February, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). Through a special account set up by the government, around US$33 million has been raised to support those affected by the conflict. Following a shipment of 27 tons of medical supplies provided by the government three days later, a MOFA-initiated donation drive also collected 650 tons of relief supplies from the public including first-aid kits, medication and surgical masks, among other much-needed goods. During a conference call April 22 with Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, MOFA Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) conveyed support from the people of Taiwan, and pledged to gift US$3 million and US$5 million from private donations to the capital city and six Ukrainian medical institutions, respectively. The MOFA said over US$20 million in aid has also been disbursed to the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the three Baltic states for Ukrainian refugees displaced by the invasion. Such an outpouring of support has shown the world Taiwan’s warmth and determination to stand in full solidarity with Ukraine, the ministry added.
