Japan’s sixth donation of COVID-19 vaccine doses to Taiwan is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oct. 26.
 
Announced by Japan Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi earlier the same day, the 300,000 shots take the cumulative total to 4.2 million given by the East Asian country to Taiwan since the onset of the pandemic.
 
According to the MOFA, the donations underscore the long-standing and warm friendship between Taiwan and Japan. These repeated acts of generosity are helping boost the country’s inoculation rate while safeguarding the health and well-being of the people, the ministry said.
 
The two sides’ collaboration in areas spanning humanitarian assistance and public health serves as a model for cooperation among neighboring countries, the MOFA said. Such support is also evidenced by Taiwan’s donation of 10,000 pulse oximeters and 1,008 oxygen concentrators to Japan last month, the ministry added.
 
Taiwan and Japan are real friends in good and tough times, the MOFA said, adding that the government is committed to deepening bilateral collaboration across the board based on this rock-solid foundation of solidarity.
