Coronavirus management measures will be partially eased in Taiwan given the stability of case and infection numbers, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center May 6.

ROC (Taiwan) nationals residing in China’s Hubei province can return home from May 8 on the condition they maintain the highest levels of in-flight infection preventative practices, as well as undergo 14-day self-quarantine upon arrival. The province’s capital Wuhan reported the first incidences of the disease late last year.

Starting the same day, Taiwan’s national baseball league will stop playing fixtures behind closed doors and allow a maximum 1,000 spectators per game. In addition, the high mountain national parks of Sheipa, Taroko and Yushan will commence accepting lodge applications.

But social distancing remains at 1.5 meter indoors and 1 meter outdoors, with the use of surgical masks strongly recommended if this standard cannot be met. Other steps include requiring those exhibiting fever or symptoms of respiratory infections to wear masks and avoid public transportation when seeking medical treatment.

Latest statistics from the CECC reveal 440 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Taiwan as of May 7, with six deaths. A total of 3,777,144 cases have been identified in 185 other countries and territories. (TYT-E)
