The government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) extend their congratulations to Australia on the successful conclusion of its federal elections May 18.

Taiwan and Australia share the common values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, while our bilateral relations continue to develop steadily. Aside from being important trading partners, Taiwan and Australia enjoy extremely close cooperation in the areas of culture, education, agriculture, science, and energy. Australia has long provided its firm support to Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations. Considering that the World Health Organization, for the third consecutive year, has failed to extend Taiwan an invitation to attend the World Health Assembly, Australia called on the international community to acknowledge that the Taiwanese people deserve access to the global health system.

The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) looks forward to working with the Australian government on the existing strong foundation to continue to deepen mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation across all fields, and together promote peace, stability and prosperity throughout the region.
